To be eligible for Student Cover you must be:

-a full time student

-on a course of at least one year’s duration

All payments are processed via Worldpay, the independent secure payment processing service. Your details will never be passed on to any third party, nor do we at SIS ever see your card details.

Once your payment has been verified, you will receive an email with your unique transaction code and everything is done! All you need to do is wait for your documents, which will be posted to you within 48 hours.

Yes - so long as they have your full address and post code and are aware of your policy requirements, a friend or family member is able to take out this policy for you.

Under this particular policy you can only insure your own things, or those which you are liable for under the law. However if you share a house with other students we may be able to arrange a special policy to cover all your possessions together. Please ring us if you want more details.

All of our policies are for a 12 month duration, although we appreciate that it is unlikely that you will be in the same address for the whole year.

It is easy to change the address on your policy, either call us with the details or send an email. However, if cover is no longer required you are entitled to cancel the policy but will only receive a refund, less Advent's administration fee, if there are more than 4 months left on your policy.

We offer a 14 day cooling off period, where, so long as no claims have been made you are entitled to a full refund.

Yes – although mobile phones are excluded under the Contents section, we have a Mobile Phone section where you can cover one mobile phone against accidental loss or damage whilst anywhere in the United Kingdom. The mobile phone section will need to be selected and paid for.

There is no cover for any computer equipment, including games consoles and their games under the Contents section and to obtain cover for items of this nature, Computer cover will need to be selected and paid for.

We do not specify that you have to have certain door or window locks and the only time there must be forced entry into the Risk Address is in the event of a claim for stolen money.

However we would always ask that you take appropriate care to safe guard your belongings!

Under the Contents Section we will not pay any more than:

-£500 for valuables

-£50 for money

-£750 for audio equipment

-£500 for CD’s, DVD’s, mini discs, records, cartridges, audio and video cassettes

-£500 for photographic equipment

-£500 for items left in the risk address during vacation unless you live in a Halls of Residence or have chosen to add on Vacation Cover for an extra premium


The main exclusions are:

-The first £25 of any claim

-Computer Equipment unless insured under the Computer Section

-Pedal Cycles unless insured under the Pedal Cycle Section

-Mobile phones unless insured under the Mobile Phone section

-Theft of money from your room, unless there is forced entry

-Contact lenses

-Theft from any private motor vehicle

If you live in a Hall of Residence, cover under all Sections applies in your room during vacations.

If you live in other accommodation, when the risk address is not occupied during vacation, cover under the Contents section will limited to £500 and no cover will apply under any other section unless you have opted to add on Vacation cover at an extra premium.

Not under the Contents Section – but cover does apply to items insured under other Sections, except for losses from private motor vehicles, which cannot be covered.

Certain Underwriters at Lloyds of London.

Advent Insurance Services Limited will deal with practically all claims, although sometimes an independent Loss Adjuster may be appointed to assist with larger claims and certain types may be dealt with by the Underwriters.

No - cover can only be reinstated after payment of the appropriate additional premium.

A renewal reminder will be sent up to 4 weeks before the policy is due and all you need to do is simply go online and do a new quote for this years’ cover, or call the office and we will give you a quote over the telephone. By doing this we keep our administration costs and your premiums down!
